PCCS responds to SPPF annual report

Responding to the publication of the Scottish Police Performance Framework annual report published this week, John McNeill the Police Complaints Commissioner for Scotland welcomed the inclusion of data on police complaints

By its nature the Framework assesses police performance against a wide range of indicators of which complaints are a sub set. It provides a useful snapshot that complements the detailed analysis of complaints about the police that is contained in the annual statistical return compiled by PCCS. Using the same data supplied by the forces we produce a robust and authoritative breakdown across a range of metrics, including the type of complaint and outcomes as well as an individual police force analysis.

In seeking continuous improvements in complaints handling we expect all of Scotland's police forces to take account of our analysis, while also carrying out their own detailed breakdown of complaints received, and that it should be available to police authorities and the public to demonstrate that they re taking action where necessary."  In the future we are also intending to develop measures around public confidence similar to the work done by the IPCC for England and Wales.
