On 11 March 2008 officers from Strathclyde Police became involved in a dispute over occupancy rights to a property. The two complaints made by the applicant relate directly to police involvement in this incident.
The Commissioner found that neither complaint was dealt with in a reasonable manner by Strathclyde Police and has recommended that further action be taken.
In relation to complaint 1, which concerns police involvement in what the applicant considered to be a purely civil dispute, the Commissioner has recommended that Strathclyde Police address whether an officer was justified in warning the applicant that she could be arrested if she refused to leave the property in question.
In relation to complaint 2, which concerns an allegation that a police officer misquoted the law, the Commissioner has recommended that Strathclyde Police write to the applicant explaining why it considers the advice given by the officer to have been accurate.
